Disney Magic Cruises: A High-Class Cruise Experience for Adults and Children

In the mid-1990s, the enterprising executives at the Disney company made the decision to get into the cruise industry. At first, they took an old cruise liner and fixed it up with all kinds of Disney charm, high-class itineraries, and family-friendly activities. This experiment was so successful that Disney soon commissioned the building of two new cruise liners—the first called the Disney Magic, and the second called the Disney Wonder. Both have been wildly successful.

Disney Magic Cruises and Adults

The early days of Disney Magic Cruises were slightly rough. While the cruise was a great success, there was some talk that the cruise was not going far enough with its adult-oriented activities. Being Disney, it was of course designed with children in mind, but many parents found that there wasn’t enough for them to do after the kids were asleep.

However, these problems have been left behind. If anything, Disney Magic Cruises now have so much for grown-ups that you won’t even know where to begin. There’s an adult-only fine dining restaurant, an adults-only café with books, newspapers, magazines, and internet, and a high-class champagne brunch. With all of these additions, Disney Magic Cruises have evolved into a kid-friendly experience that also happens to be one of the top cruise experiences for grown-ups.

Disney Magic Cruises for Kids

Of course, even with all of those adult attractions, Disney Magic Cruises were designed with families in mind. Thus, many of the activities are made to be enjoyed by the whole family, including parents and kids of all ages.

For smaller children, there’s the Oceaneer’s Club, which has hands-on activities and artwork projects, plus a huge play room in the shape of a pirate ship. Inside, there are computers and TV monitors that allow kids to play all kinds of fun games.

Meanwhile, for older kids, there’s an area called The Stack, which opens to preteens in the morning and teens after 1 p.m. Here, kids can enjoy non-alcoholic drinks and coffee and enjoy many interesting and fun activities.

One of the best features for parents with kids is a Personal Navigator, essentially a pager that allows parents to keep track of where their kids are at any time. It’s easy to use, and it’s a great comfort to be able to know what your child is doing. This allows you to let kids over a certain age have a little freedom, which is fun for everyone involved.

Other Features of Disney Magic Cruises

The Disney Magic has some of the largest and best-designed staterooms in the industry. There’s a living room, an ample bedroom, and a television featuring programs from a variety of Disney-owned channels, including ABC, the Disney Channel, and ESPN, as well as from several non-Disney channels.

Outside of the cabin, the wonders to be found on Disney Magic are too numerous to name. There is an incredible range of food and dining options. There’s a spa and a fitness club, a basketball court, and a volleyball area, and several theaters offering dramatic and funny live shows.
